LIMESTONE

Warm Elegance and Timeless Beauty.

A sedentary gem with its own character.

Limestone, in spanish, Piedra Caliza, is a sedimentary rock composed primarily of calcium carbonate (CaCO3). It can form through two distinct processes: chemical (the precipitation of calcium in water) and biological (the accumulation and cementation of marine organism remains and minerals, such as shells or corals) in marine or lake environments, especially in warm, shallow seas.

This natural stone is the third most abundant mineral in the Earth’s crust and is mined in multiple regions, with southern Spain being one of the main producers.

It has been one of the most widely used natural stones in construction since ancient times due to its versatility and durability.

Differences between Limestone and Marble.

Both natural stones are composed primarily of calcium carbonate, as marble comes from the metamorphism of limestone through recrystallization, which varies its characteristics.Marble is a metamorphic rock that forms when limestone is subjected to high temperatures and pressures. It is compact and crystalline with high hardness and almost no fossils.

Limestone, on the other hand, is a sedimentary rock formed by the deposit of marine or chemical remains. It is porous and granular, with the presence of fossils. In short, limestone is more natural and economical, while marble is more resistant.

Available finishes for Limestone.

Different finishes can determine the aesthetics, durability, and functionality of the material.

A smooth, glossy surface with almost zero porosity is characteristic of Polished Limestone. This highlights its structure, texture, and color.

A Honed finish achieves a matte, silky surface without any visible marks or roughness.

A rough, non-slip texture, ideal for wet and outdoor areas, is characteristic of Sandblasted Limestone.

An Aged finish gives this natural stone a slightly wavy feel with an irregular but smoothed surface reminiscent of stones from historic buildings.

Finally, Bush-hammered Limestone offers a natural, rustic, and uniform surface with high adhesion, making it an optimal choice for outdoor and wet areas.

APPLICATIONS & USES

Indoors, this natural stone is often used for paving and flooring, stairs, wall cladding, fireplaces, and decorative elements, while outdoors it is commonly used for facades, exterior paving, thresholds, and stairs, and for pool surrounds and street furniture.

Tiles

Our Limestone tiles are available in a variety of standard sizes and thicknesses, ideal for flooring and wall cladding. The tiles are highly versatile and can be used for residential, commercial, and large-scale projects. In Coavantia Stone we reinforce the tiles with a mesh backing to ensure durability, easier handling, and safe installation.

For shipping, tiles are packed in pallets or cardboard boxes placed inside export crates to guarantee they arrive in perfect condition.

All pieces can be produced according to the dimensions requested, ensuring a perfect fit for any project.

Slabs

Slabs are the result of introducing Limestone blocks in the factory. We can obtein slabs with the same height and length, with any desired thickness. After, any desired finish can be applied. Standard slabs are generally around 4 m².

Todo nuestro material se sirve tonificado, sea cual sea la cantidad que se solicite. Podemos realizar tablas con las dimensiones específicas que el cliente demande.

Blocks

This natural stone is extracted from the quarry in blocks. There’s not a standard size, they usually measure between 2’4 and 3 meters wide, 1’4 to 2 meters long and 1’5 meters deep, and they are always referred to in cubic meters, therefore, and based on the dimensions mentioned, their volume can vary between 4.5 and 7 cubic meters. Larger sizes are not extracted because they would be too heavy for proper transport in a container.

Existe la posibilidad de elegir previamente el tamaño del Bloque, y así facilitar la obtención de tablas con una determinada medida, para un proceso más eficiente de la manufactura, reduciendo costes para nuestros clientes.

Special Pieces

In Coavantia Stone we manufacture different types of special pieces adapted to the needs of each project, which include:

  • Thresholds and and other architectural details.
  • Skirting boards.
  • Bathroom and kitchen countertops
  • Drip edges
